Wow, what a day!

Today Eduardo told me that we are supposed to meet his old friend – Juan, that I haven’t met yet. Since he never came to visit us in England, this was a good occasion to get introduced.

Honestly, I wasn’t very fond of the idea, because ever since I came to Malaga, we haven’t had even a minute alone and we haven’t seen each other for 2 months! But I guess I have no power in front of Mediterranean customs.

Juan came early and we had a drink on our patio before going to the restaurant. He doesn’t speak practically any English, so they just spoke in Spanish in front of me and I was just bored. This guy didn’t give me a good impression; he seemed sexist and kind of a buffoon… But I kept pushing this idea to the back of my head. You know, never judge the book by its cover.

While on the way to the restaurant, he turned to me and asked me not to put my feet on the seats. Why in the world would he assume I would ever do that?!

All the way to the restaurant they kept speaking in Spanish and I overhead “….Dorian Gray…” and Juan repeated that a couple of times. Then I started thinking, OMG, this guy knows about Dorian Gray! Maybe he is not such a buffoon after all since he read Oscar Wilde! So my heart started thawing.

When we finally got to the restaurant, this is when I realized that they weren’t talking about the book and not even the movie. It was the name of the restaurant – The Dorian Gray, an English restaurant! I felt like an American at a McDonald’s in Italy.

Maybe sometimes judging a book by its cover is the right thing to do after all?
